Ashley Kusia and Victor Nga- Vizo’s African Restaurant

Ashley and Victor came to the SBDC in 2018 with the thought of starting a true African bar & restaurant in Lubbock, TX. The idea was “to sell African food, alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages to patrons with a cultural experience they will not find anywhere else in Lubbock and the surrounding communities”. The atmosphere would create a sense of belonging and nostalgia for people of African origin, and a sense of exoticism for other patrons. Vizo’s opened in 2019 and did just that. The owners took pride in serving authentic, delicious African food to the community, with foods cooked fresh and made to order.

The restaurant quickly became popular and even made Forbes' Top 100 Places to Eat in the U.S. list for 2020! However, they closed temporarily in 2021 to look for a different location, to accommodate for growth and to account for some family changes. They have now recently re-opened at a different location that is closer to Tech and that gives them more space.
